Stephanie's Blog
To blog or not to blog...and what is blogging anyway?

I recently decided to broaden my scope of writing to include freelance writing for online publications. Since this is new territory for me, I began by checking out various websites' discussion groups and investigating what "people-in-the-know" say about getting your "foot in the door." The general opinion I found is it's a good idea to establish an online community of readers through a blog. "It's not a bad idea," I thought, so for the two days that followed I researched this mega-phenomenon called "blogging."

I'll admit that I had no idea what blogging really was. So I checked one of my favorite resources--the dictionary. According to dictionary.com, a blog is a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page, in other words an online diary. However, as I read different blogs on different sites from blogger.com to Wordpress to Christianblog, they didn't seem to be limited to what I'd consider to be a typical collection of "diary" entries. It seems that you can post videos and call it a blog. You can journal your day-to-day life and it's a blog. You can write your thoughts about a political issue and that's a blog. Your travel log--yep, it can be a blog too. So I deduced that a "blog" is whatever you make it.

So in keeping with my passion to write and challenge others in their walks with God, I decided to get on the band-wagon and join the blogging community. I have two. "Searching for Hidden Treasures" is based upon the precept found in Proverbs 2:1-5 that we should search for God's wisdom and understanding "like a prospector panning for gold" (Proverbs 2:4, Msg). You can call it my personal, chronological log of thoughts on God, but my prayer is that all who read it will come away with a fresh perspective on living in this world as Christ's followers and be challenged to search for God's wisdom in mundane, day-to-day life as if they were searching for hidden treasures. If you're interested in joining me on my quest for God's treasure, you'll find a sampling of posts on my website by clicking on the menu item "Hidden Treasures," or you can go to http://searchingforhiddentreasures.blogspot.com/.
The second blog I author is called "Nuggets of Truth". I've been asked, "why two blogs?" The answer is simple. No two blogs are alike and not every blog is for every person. While "Searching for Hidden Treasures" is about finding God's wisdom in every day life circumstances, "Nuggets of Truth" is about finding God's wisdom in his Word. So if you're looking for a blog to help you dig deeper into God's Word, then "Nuggets of Truth" is for you. Find it on my website or visit it at http://treasurednuggetsoftruth.blogspot.com/. I hope you are blessed. Happy reading!
